Strengthening the Future of Value-Based Care: Reflections on Health Care Value Week
Last week, in partnership with Accountable for Health (A4H), we had the privilege of kicking off Health Care Value Week with a private dinner, bringing together some of the most innovative voices in value-based care. It was a candid, forward-looking conversation—one that reflected on what’s worked, what hasn’t, and where we must focus our efforts to evolve value-based care for the next decade.
The momentum from the dinner carried through the rest of the week, as discussions across panels and sessions reinforced the urgency of tackling persistent challenges in payment models, care coordination, and data usability. The conversations reaffirmed why Zus Health joined A4H: to help accelerate the transition to a more sustainable, data-driven healthcare system that rewards outcomes over volume.
One of the biggest themes emerging from Health Care Value Week was the growing urgency to refine value-based payment models. While the promise of value-based care remains strong, the evidence suggests that many models have yet to generate sustained cost savings or meaningful quality improvements at scale. Discussions throughout the week highlighted the need for stronger financial incentives, more sustainable benchmarks, and better alignment between payers and providers. The takeaway? Value-based care must evolve beyond incremental adjustments—real transformation requires bold, systemic change.

As value-based care continues to evolve, new models—such as enhanced specialty care integration, shadow bundles, and advanced risk-sharing mechanisms—are reshaping how providers engage with risk-based arrangements. The focus is shifting from incremental adjustments to more fundamental redesigns that align financial incentives with high-quality, proactive care. But success will require simplifying data exchange, reducing administrative burden, and enabling smarter interventions before costly utilization occurs.
